Characteristics
World-renowned
Czech dancer, choreographer and ballet
director, Jiri Kylian, created
this foundation in 1990 in Den Haag,
the Netherlands. The goal of the Jiri
Kylian Foundation is to introduce our
professional dance community
with the recent developments of contemporary
dance abroad, as well
as promote our own Czech dance artists
and their creations to the
rest of the world.
In
1991, a thirty-year
project was launched, outlining a reciprocal
cooperation between
Holland and the Czech Republic in the
field of dance, ballet and
theatre. This project was initiated
by Jir Kylian through the assistance
of activities of the Dutch Government
for the support of culture
in the countries of the former Eastern
bloc. In the framework of
this activity, the Kylian Foundation,
together with the Theatre
Institute in Prague, created a consultation
and coordination centre
of professional dance and ballet. This
Centre can be found on the
second floor of the Theatre Institute
in Prague.
Another
aim
of this project, in addition to the
organisation and coordination
of the exchanges of cultural activities
and student and professional
placements abroad, is to broaden the
inventory of dance video documentation
currently available. This unique "videotheque" is
currently located
at the Kylian Foundation and continues
to grow with new titles.
The current manager of the videotheque
is Elvra Nmekov.
